It’s an old chestnut of the English soccer media that more Premiership matches should be held at 3 pm (UK time) on Saturdays, the traditional time that matches have always started.
Well this weekend, all but one Saturday match takes place in that time slot. This may make for misty reminiscences of wooden rattles and power rationing, but stinks for US viewers. With only two channels, having more games at that time-slot reduces our number of live matches by at least one (no early match this weekend) and potentially two. So count me as a fan of “weird” kickoff times. It seems to me that the more live televised matches on Saturday the better.
PS: If they’re going to start showing more and more matches in that single timeslot, then someone, either Setanta or Fox should commit to giving real updates, either audio or full highlights, during breaks in play of the televised match. Either that, or just give us a feed of Sky’s Soccer Saturday.
