Of course, that outraged tone could only mean one thing… I’m talking about Arsenal again.
Let me get the obvious out of the way quite quickly. Adebayor’s sending off is an utter disgrace. His first card was marginal, the second one was shockingly soft. I refuse to hear otherwise. That was a simple case of a referee injecting his ugly mug into a match that really was going along quite fine until Adebayor gets sent off needlessly and, oh yeah, our best player and total talismanic presence, Cesc Fabregas, has gone down hurt for at best a few weeks… There goes the season. There goes Europe. There goes everything. That’s it. We’re doomed. You want reasoned, George Will-style commentary on these events. Well you’re not getting that here. Not about Arsenal, not after watching that. Not after seeing fortune turn against us yet again. I think we’re going to be very lucky to qualify for Europe now. And there is no one to blame but ourselves. Look at that midfield we tossed out there once Cesc went down. Only one, (Nasri) would see any time on another top 4 team. The other simply are not good enough. Same goes for the defense really, Djourou was a Djoke yesterday, with Liverpool simply using him as a slalom pylon for 90 minutes. This season has really shaken my faith in some of the basic “givens” that have always come with Arsenal under Wenger. Remember when these were accepted as bedrock principles of Arsenal’s success?
- Sound tactics
- Intelligent signings
- Boardroom stability
- Players with character
How many of these have we seen blown to bits in the last 2-3 seasons?
I am sure some of you flat-earth “true believers” are shaking your heads tut-tutting about how Arsenal grittily got a draw yesterday. That was not only a match we needed to win, that was a match we could’ve won. We didn’t.
Ugh. That sums up my view.
