It’s Le Mans Week

The intro from last year’s race

The buildup has begun for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the biggest motor races on the planet along with Daytona, Indy and Monaco and my personal favorite of the three. This year’s race features another battle for overall honors between the diesel-powered supercars of Audi and Peugeot. Other cars you’ll see during the race include Corvettes, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches, Saleens, and Spykers. It’s always an amazing show and I encourage you to tune, even if just for a few minutes.

The race begins on Saturday morning, U.S. time, and ends the following day. Speed Channel will have live TV coverage during two different periods of the race:

  • The Start – 8:30 a.m. (EST)-12:30 p.m.
  • Overnight and Finish 9:30 p.m.- 9:30 a.m.

If you want to follow the race while it isn’t on, Radio Le Mans is always available with live audio commentary include during this week during practice and qualifying. Other sites following the race include Autosport, SpeedTV, Planet Le Mans, and Club Arnage.

I am sure a lot you readers out there could not possible care any less, but give it a shot. You’ll be amazed at the speed, the pageantry, and the sheer skill and guts required to drive upwards of 200 mph in the dark on an unlit circuit.

  1. What’s not to love? Along with the Monaco/Indy doubleheader, it’s one of my favorite weekends in sports.

With no USGP at Indy this year, I guess I’ll have more time to watch
