A Chelsea fan on the way to the big match.
Another Chelsea-Liverpool Champions League match. I cannot be less interested. These two teams always combine for 90 minutes of soporific sludge. Even Uefa.com can’t manage to hype the match up on their own preview.
In six meetings between these clubs in this competition, including the group stage, only three goals have been scored and tonight’s encounter is tipped to be just as tight – with Chelsea happy to reverse history by playing the first leg away from home.
Typically, the only entertaining part of these encounters has been watching Jose’s postmatch meltdowns. Tonight, I suspect Chelsea does the “park the bus in front of goal” routine, marks Torres out of the match, and says, “What now?” My suspicion that Liverpool won’t have an answer, Anfield roar or not.
Plus Benitez has smashed the mind-games hammer into Chelsea again and with Avram Grant not looking the most rational of individuals at this moment, Rafa’s tactics look even more likely to succeed. Yet, I am not optimistic of goals or even action in this match.
My pick: 0-0… zzzzzzz.
